| Description: | PSCI 4342 - Legislative Decision Making (3 semester hours) This course examines the politics of the Texas Legislature in detail. It is offered only during legislative sessions and uses the session as a backdrop to examine policy making and politics in this branch of state government. Instructor consent required. | Class Notes: | • DEPARTMENTAL HONORS. This class will travel to Austin, TX on February 25-26, 2013. There will be two in-class meetings on January 19 from 12PM-3PM and February 9 from 10AM-1PM in GR 3.420. • This Hybrid/on-line honors course examines the Texas Legislature and its decision-making. Because much of the activity of the Texas Legislature is available on-line, it is a natural fit for the hybrid model. The course will meet on two Saturday afternoons (1/19 and 2/9) in Dallas from 12PM-3PM and 10AM-1PM, respectively. In addition, students will spend two full days in Austin on February 25 and 26. UTD will cover the cost of transportation and lodging for this trip where you will meet and observe Legislators in two days of intense classroom experience. As this is a school-sponsored trip, any classes missed while in Austin will be excused. The remaining hours of instruction are on-line with assignments tailored to each students area of interest given each week through the elearning website. Evaluation in the course will consist of a series of short on-line papers and one more complete term paper where the student examines a policy area being discussed in the legislative session. | ||||||||||||||||
